AMD radiation-hardened (RH) and radiation-tolerant (RT), reconfigurable FPGAs and adaptive SoCs give designers robust, qualified devices that can meet the performance, reliability, and lifecycle demands of space. AMD performs and reports extensive radiation characterization, including total ionizing dose (TID) and single event effects (SEE) in proton and heavy ion environments.

Spaceflight and AI Solutions

AMD Versalâ„¢ AI Edge XQRVE2302 becomes the second radiation-tolerant device in the space-grade (XQR) Versal adaptive SoC portfolio to be qualified for spaceflight, having achieved Class B qualification.

AMD Versal AI Edge XQRVE2302 devices bring accelerated AI inferencing to space with integrated, enhanced AMD AI Engines (AIE) optimized for machine learning applications. Known as AIE-ML, these compute engines deliver enhanced support for data types prevalent in AI inferencing, offering 2X the INT8 and 16X the BFLOAT16 performance, with reduced latency compared to first-generation AI Engines. Additionally, local memory has doubled via new memory tiles providing high bandwidth shared memory access.

XQRVE2302 devices bring powerful computing into a small form factor (23mm x 23mm package). It is the industry’s first adaptive SoC for space applications to be offered in such a small form-factor package. The devices feature the same high-performance processor system as the larger Versal AI Core XQRVC1902 space-grade device, in less than 30% of the board area, resulting in a smaller footprint and a significant reduction in power consumption.

The Versal XQR Series also represents a major leap forward in enabling sophisticated on-board processing in space. Unlike other radiation-tolerant FPGAs, AMD Versal XQR adaptive SoCs support unlimited reprogramming during development and after deployment, including in-flight in the harsh radiation environment of space.

The 7nm Versal ACAP is fully programmable heterogeneous computing using Scalar, Adaptable, and Intelligent Engines for the highest- and fastest-performing programmable logic.

Product News

AMD is extending the lifecycles on all AMD 7 Series devices to 2040 and UltraScale+ devices to 2045.

While AMD plans for a minimum lifecycle of 15 years for new device families, both AMD 7 Series and UltraScale+ FPGAs and adaptive SoCs continue to deliver excellent value and capabilities for new designs. And for designs requiring high levels of performance and integration, AMD Versal adaptive SoCs will be available even longer, to 2045 and beyond.

With this lifecycle extension, select AMD devices will be available for a total of 28 years from the time of launch. That’s a long time. In some cases, it’s long enough for the next generation of designers to inherit the redesign.

What does that mean for you? With 18 total families and >150 unique devices in production through 2040 and longer, there has never been a better time to build products that last.
